Hello, hello!
I apologize for that poor opening. I am still new at this.
Anyway, this is my blog! If you haven't guessed from my bio yet I have a deep love for books and movies. I'm pretty sure that love will never end. I think most of you have heard the saying that reading is an escape. While it might not be true for everyone, it's very much true for me. I'll confess that I wasn't a big fan of books when I was younger. I found reading to be tedious and boring. What got me out of that mindset? Believe it or not it was those summer home reading requirements that schools, including mine, give out every end of the school year. Up until third grade, I had no patience for it. It was only 'til fourth grade did I realize, "Hey, reading can be fun!". The book that was required to read at that time was "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume. The book was hilarious and heartwarming and overall was a good read. Until now, I find myself rereading some chapters of the book and I still laugh and cry. The rest, you can say, is history. That flame I have driving me to read books is still burning strong and probably will 'til the day I can't physically read anymore.
Movies on the other hand? That took a lot longer. Don't get me wrong, I have always liked movies (I mean, who doesn't?) but that deep appreciation and awe for film didn't come until high school. Before that time, movies were simply for entertainment, a way for passing time when you have nothing to do at home or in the mall. But during seventh grade, I started to actually evaluate the execution films, its plot, its characters, and sometimes even its camera work. I don't remember what triggered this change of perspective. Maybe it was my father's seemingly endless collection of movies and how I would borrow some for me to just watch during my spare time. Maybe it was because 2013 was pretty much, as a whole, a lackluster year for movies and some got so bad that I can't anymore hold back my remarks. Or maybe because that was the year I watched The Dark Knight for the second time since 2008 and realized how good a comic book film can be. How good film can be period. In any case, I have loved film since then.
After a while, I started making some reviews for some books I have read. When I created a Goodreads account, that's when I started to make reviews for all the books I have read since I created it. I took some time to write reviews for some of my favorite films too but compared to my book reviews, those were minuscule. Writing reviews was surprisingly a fun experience for me. It was an activity wherein I got to write about my passions and it allowed me to really evaluate the book or movie as honestly as I can. No matter how busy I got, I made time to write reviews. Making a blog didn't really cross my mind until I found out my friend had one.
My friend, Lyka Cali (Check her blog out! She's awesome! http://wanderfulreads.blogspot.com/) told me the basics and nature of blogging and I found myself really attracted to the idea. Goodreads is amazing but there, I am only confined to books. With a blog, I can share anything I want. I can post books reviews, movie reviews, or anything I may find interesting enough to share. It took some time for me to really decide to create a blog. For one thing, I am absolutely TERRIBLE at programming and editing. Looking back, I should have really payed more attention to my computer class when we were discussing Photoshop and programming but it really isn't up my ally. I also doubted my ability to actually write something. What if what I post is complete crap? What if this blog turns completely stagnant after a while? But obviously in the end, I managed to ignore all that and just GO FOR IT. My other friends have been gracious enough to help me set this whole thing up. It doesn't hurt that Blogspot remembers that there are people like me who would very much like to blog but are hopeless when it comes to the technical aspect of blogging. Their set up is simple enough for even me to understand well enough. Thank God for that.
What to expect? You can expect a lot of book and film related stuff in this blog. Especially reviews. I may occasionally post about TV shows but seeing how I am really behind on most of my shows that won't be for a while. I'll also post anything I find interesting enough to share with the world.
I would like to take this time to say in advance that this is my blog which means anything I post are what I think. They're purely my thoughts and what I feel. Anyone is more than welcome to disagree. Everyone should be able to voice what they believe in.
.....and that is all for now. I am extremely excited to start posting! Let's hope I won't make so much of a mess.
